Durian - the king of all Malaysian fruits

The king of all Malaysian fruits, durian, is well known for its odour (which is hard to describe). Where, it may not be a pleasant smell to Westerners, but the taste is creamy and luscious.


The durian is a tall tree towering as high as 40m in the jungle rainforest or in semi-orchard. Seed trees may take 8-10 years to fruit. A grafted durian tree grows to 15 - 20m tall. The fruit is green to yellowish brown in colour, pendulous, round to oblong in shape almost roughly like a foot ball and is completely covered with strong sharp thorns which is usually opened by a large knife or a machete.

This fruit which can be split into five parts when ripe where each segment contains brown seeds covered with thick, custard like yellow pulp where you can eat it plain, mixed with rice or coconut cream and even made into ice cream.

Older women who eat more chocolate are less likely to develop heart problems over a nearly 10 year period, new study findings report.

Women older than 70 who ate chocolate at least once a week were 35% less likely to be hospitalised or die from heart disease over the course of study, and nearly 60% were less likely to be hospitalised or die from heart failure.

Oil Price RON95 likely to increase further...

NGOs Want Oil Price Hike To Be Reviewed

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 3 (Bernama) -- The increase in prices of petrol (RON95), diesel, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and sugar from between 5 sen and 20sen respectively, received mixed reaction from Non Governmental Organizations (NGO).

FOMCA adviser Prof Datuk Hamdan Adnan said the price of RON95 petrol should not have been increased because it remains an important driving force for the people in the country.

"If the price of sugar increases, it is alright but not the price of petrol because it remains the main generator of development and economy of the country and the people defend heavily on its usage daily," he told Bernama when contacted here Friday.

When asked to comment on the price hike, he added that there should be a mechanism to regulate the price of fuel so that the target group will continue to enjoy the subsidy.

Effective midnight (Dec 4), RON95 and diesel will go up by 5 sen to RM1.90 and RM1.80 respectively, while the price of LPG will go up by 5 sen per kilogram and sugar price is also going up by 20 sen per kilogram.

Hamdan's views was also shared by Muslim Consumer Association of Malaysia (PPIM), executive secretary Datuk Nadzim Johan.

Meanwhile, CUEPACS president Omar Osman said the union was concerned with the increase because it will have a chain reaction and burden the low income group.

"The increase in prices will certainly affect the lower income group, especially civil servants in the lower levels," he said.

Today, I went to Pacific Bowl KB Mall Kota Bharu. Played 2 games of bowling with friends. It was enough for me because very tired to play more. My scores just 140 points and 2nd game 128 points. Is it okay? Haha... Just to relax and take breath outside. Each game charge at RM5.50. Open daily at 8.00 am and close at 1.30 am. Pacific Bowl KB Mall have 36 lanes bowl.

Barisan Nasional has regained the Galas state seat when its candidate Ab Aziz Yusoff won by a 1,190 vote majority Thursday.

Ab Aziz Yusoff (BN) with 5324 votes.
Dr Zulkefli Mohamed (PAS) with 4134 votes.
