King Ben takes the Monsoon Cup 2010

I was there during Monsoon Cup Closing Ceremony Yesterday

KUALA TERENGGANU: Ben Ainslie, of Teamorigin, is the winner of the Monsoon Cup championship, as well as champion of the World Match Racing Tour (WMRT).

Ainslie, the helmsman from Britain, defeated Torvar Mirsky (Mirsky Racing Team) 3-2 in the final match at Pulau Duyong Sunday.

Ainslie won RM310,000, while Mirsky took home RM215,000. As the WMRT champion, Ainslie also won USD50,000.

Third place was won by Jesper Radich (Gaastra Racing Team), the helmsman from Denmark. He took home RM155,000, while fourth prize of RM140,000 was won by Bjorn Hansen (Hansen Global Team).

The Monsoon Cup is currently the richest event on the WMRT, offering close to RM1.5mil in prize money. Terengganu State Secretary Datuk Mazlan Ngah presented the prizes to the winners.

Helmsman Ian Williams (Team GAC Pindar) won the fifth place with RM125,000, while Italian sailor, Francesco Bruni (Team Azzurra) was sixth and Datuk Peter Gilmour (YANMAR Racing) at seventh place.

The sole local participant, Jeremy Koo and his Koo Racing Team-Evernew crew won RM50,000.

Meanwhile, Mathieu Richard (French Match Racing) won second place in the WMRT with USD40,0000, while third place went to Mirsky, from Australia (USD35,000).
